TORE H.
BOE - ANLA COURTIS
"Blot
og Mono Middagshvil"
cd-ep
Alan Courtis,
aka Anla Courtis, Courtis is a remarkable guitarist and sound generator
who lives in Buenos Aires. He's the leading force of the underground in
the noise/digital/drone music field. In this interview Courtis makes himself
clear about his purposes in music: the permanent searching in discovering
new possibilities of sounds, his approach with the instruments as the
interaction between the ideas/sense and a source material; and the freeforms
for the music with out 'controlling' sounds and improvising and letting
the music unfold fluently.
He has a solid background as a trainee on classical guitar, piano, theory,
composition and graduate of the University Of Buenos Aires in Communication
Science. In the music field he carries out an annual music workshop at
this university for people with and with out 'disabilities'. He has played
guitar in several bands and in 1993 he's co-founder of Reynols, nowadays
a kind of cult band that split-up last year, although some of its members
still work together. He has a wide discography of more than 20 albums
as a solo artist, with Reynols about other 20 records released and new
releases to come out soon. He has collaborated live and in the studio
with several artists such us Lasse Marhaug, Massona, Lee Ranaldo [Sonic
Youth], Richard Bishop [Sun City Girls] Pauline Oliveros, Yoshimi P-Wee
[Boredoms], John Oswald, The Moglass, Francisco López, Makoto Kawabata
[Acid Mothers Temple], to name a few.
